Special Projects
Since our beginning in 2006, RUCCIS students have been involved in many special projects and oppertunities, working with guest coaches from around the world. Here are just a few of the things we've done...
German Wheel and Performance Development with Mel Fyfe In her year off from Circus OZ, Mel came to RUCCIS to teach German Wheel and Acrobalance, and share her knowledge of performance structure and development before our 2008 Production. Mel helped students refine their acts and focus on their performance aspect.
Pitching workshop with Hemlock Mejarne and Tim Freeman In this workshop, RUCCIS students learnt the basics of pitching and basket work from the Hectic Brothers: Hemlock Mejarne and Tim Freeman.
Melbourne Juggling Convention Every year, RUCCIS students volunteer on the door of the Melbourne Juggling Convention, where they join dozens of workshops on manipulation skills, and can network with the rest of the circus community.
Swinging Cloudswing Masterclass with Christy Shelper Our Cloudswing students were thrilled to imporve their technique in this masterclass with Christy Shelper - the Cloudswing artist from Cirque Du Soliel's Quidam.
Stunt Tumbling with DJ Garner Leaping from tall platforms, falling flat on our faces and tripping each other over were just some of the skills learnt in this slapstic / stunt workshop, led by proffesional stunt-man DJ Garner from Dislocate.
Dynamic Acro with Jodie Farrugia As part of this 3-day intensive, our students learned to incorperate fast-paced motion into thier acro skills, using momentum to acheive great heights. Jodie is an acrobat, dancer and choreographer who has worked with Circus OZ, Flying Fruit Fly Circus, and Circus Monoxide.
Juggling and Diablo with Christian Parr and Sacha Fawkes During our Jan '08 Holiday Program, RUCCIS students learnt advanced juggling and diablo skills, such as the infamous Excalibur move, from Melbourne-based Diabloist Sacha Fawkes, and Christian Parr - the man behind the Melbourne Juggling convention.
Character and Showmanship with Mel Fyfe What good is an act without a character? Mel Fyfe of Circus OZ worked with RUCCIS students to help them develop characterisation and performance skills to add new depth to their acts.
The Knox Festival Knox Fest is one of our biggest events of the year. For two days in March,we set up our outdoor aerial rig, performing student shows and running free public workshops all weekend!
Community Theatre with VADA RUCCIS performers were invited to join VADA - the Visual and Dramatic Arts group of Paraquad Victoria - to work with their members on a circus-themed theatre production.
Australia Day People's March Every year, RUCCIS students have been involved in Melbourne's Australia Day celebrations, performing on stilts and unicycles in the Parade, and roving through the gardens in the afternoon.
